Users read resultpages at Google in triangles, what’s now been called “the Golden Triangle”. Users scan from top left to top right, and then bottom of page left, making a triangle pattern.
According to Eyetools, a marketleader company in eyetracking, 100% of their study participants looked at the “Golden Triangle” of the Search engine result pages (SERP).
The percentages of users that looked at any given rank on the SERP are:
- Rank 1 – 100%
- Rank 2 – 100%
- Rank 3 – 100%
- Rank 4 – 85%
- Rank 5 – 60%
- Rank 6 – 50%
- Rank 7 – 50%
- Rank 8 – 30%
- Rank 9 – 30%
- Rank 10 – 20%
Get in the first two or three results, you almost can’t do any better. Only way to do better, is to make sure your competitors are not in top 10 at all 🙂
